Behavior Modeling Tool Developed to Measure Soldier's Responses

Charles River Analytics, Inc. - CAMBRIDGE, MA – Charles River Analytics is developing a cognitive modeling approach and associated modeling tools that incorporate the effects of behavior moderators on decision-making behavior in skilled operational environments. The MINDS program for Modeling Individual-Soldier and Small-Unit Behavior for Urban Warfare is intended to enhance the performance of individual soldiers and small units by supporting the investigation of the effects of a range of moderating factors on cognitive performance, including personality and skill as well as operational factors such as fatigue and heat stress. The expected result is a suite of modeling tools that will allow US Army researchers to generate and evaluate specific hypotheses regarding operational performance in the small unit combat environment.

MINDS is being developed for the US Army Soldier Systems Center and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). The Soldier Systems Center in Natick, Massachusetts, is the Army's "one-stop soldier-support organization" that strives to "provide America’s soldiers with the best equipment in the world" (http://www.natick.army.mil/about/index.htm).

In earlier development, MINDS demonstrated how human decision-making and cognitive processes are affected by differences between individuals and stressors. Charles River Analytics is enhancing MINDS with advanced design, scope, and evaluation in a full-scope prototype environment.
