An Architecture-Independent Cognitive-Trace Analysis Tool for Real-World Human Behavior Models

The creation of Human Behavior Models (HBMs) for complex, real-world domains is a difficult, costly, and error-prone process. The TRACE project provides tools to HBM developers and analysts that support the creation and verification and validation (V&V) of such models. This paper describes our efforts to implement TRACE and use it in the creation and analysis of a complex air-combat domain. We describe a number of lessons learned through this process and the related changes made to TRACE, including using a simpler domain-representation scheme, extending our knowledge-representation scheme to support parameterized concepts and constraint-based relationships, extending our tools to better represent and reason about temporally extended events, and adding new automated analysis routines to the TRACE toolset to support the analysis of complex domains.
